Er wurde an der Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London ausgebildet und wurde Mitglied der Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), wo er in modernen und klassischen Theaterproduktionen auftrat. Er spielte 1985 den Vicomte de Valmont in der RSC-Inszenierung von Les Liaisons Dangereuses, und nachdem die Produktion 1986 ins West End und 1987 an den Broadway übertragen wurde, wurde er für einen Tony Award nominiert. |
