Kurt Harold Ainsworth (born September 9, 1978) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played for the San Francisco Giants and Baltimore Orioles of the Major League Baseball (MLB) and went to Louisiana State University. Ainsworth also won an Olympic Games gold medal with the United States national baseball team at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. Following his professional baseball career, Ainsworth co-founded Marucci Sports and currently serves as the company's CEO.

Alvin Robert Lamar Jones III (born September 9, 1978) is a Luxembourgian-American professional basketball player. A 6'11" (2.11 m), 265 lb (120 kg) center, he attended Kathleen High School in Lakeland, Florida, and played collegiately at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he set the all-time record for shots blocked with 425. Jones was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 56th pick of the 2001 NBA Draft. He played one NBA season (2001–02), averaging 1.1 points in 23 games. In 2006, he played with German team RheinEnergie.

Jyoti Sunita Kullu (born 9 September 1978 in Sundargarh, Odisha) is a female field hockey player from India, who made her international debut for her native country in 1996 in Delhi at the Indira Gandhi Gold Cup. In 2002, she became the topscorer of the Champions Challenge tournament in Johannesburg, South Africa, with five goals in six matches. In the same year Kullu won the golden medal with India at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England.

James Michael Dougherty (born September 9, 1978) is an American football coach who is currently the quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator for the Arizona Wildcats. Prior to that, he was the wide receivers coach at UCLA.

Gijimani Jim Skosana (born 9 September 1978) is a South African politician from Mpumalanga and a current Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the African National Congress (ANC). He previously served as the mayor of the Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality from 2016 to 2017.

Dave Clancy (born 9 September 1978) is an English ice hockey goaltender, who most recently played for the Flintshire Freeze in the ENL. Clancy began his career playing at deeside junior ice hockey club. Then worked his way up to play some games for the senior team. He then left the club to go and play for the Altrincham Tigers at Under-19 level. He backstopped the Tigers to a national tournament win in Cardiff, claiming the 'Goalie of the Tournament' award along the way. Clancy was also selected for the Team G.B. U-20 squad the same year, but was unavailable to travel with the squad.

Kazuya Yoshioka (吉岡 和也, Yoshioka Kazuya, born 9 September 1978) is a Japanese ski jumper. In his long World Cup career, Yoshioka has finished twelve times among the top 10. He also has four podium finishes as well as two team victories on 30 January 1999 in Willingen, and on 19 January 2001 in Park City. At the 2001 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships he finished 19th on the normal hill and 20th on the large hill. He placed 19th at the 1998 FIS Ski Flying World Championships.

Steffen Dangelmayr (born 9 September 1978) is a German former football defender. He made five league appearances for the VfB Stuttgart first team during their 2002–03 campaign, which saw them finish runners-up in the Bundesliga table; since that season, however, he did not made a single Bundesliga appearance, instead toiling away in the third division of German football.
