Rabindranath Tagore FRAS (/rəˈbɪndrənɑːt tæˈɡɔːr/; Bengali: রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর; 7. Mai 1861 - 7. August 1941) war ein bengalischer Universalgelehrter, der als Dichter, Schriftsteller, Dramatiker, Komponist, Philosoph, Sozialreformer und Maler arbeitete. Er prägte die bengalische Literatur und Musik sowie die indische Kunst mit dem kontextuellen Modernismus im späten 19. und frühen 20. Als Autor der "zutiefst empfindsamen, frischen und schönen" Dichtung Gitanjali wurde er 1913 als erster Nichteuropäer und erster Lyriker mit dem Nobelpreis für Literatur ausgezeichnet. Tagores poetische Lieder wurden als spirituell und quecksilbrig angesehen; seine "elegante Prosa und magische Poesie" sind jedoch außerhalb Bengalens weitgehend unbekannt. Er war Fellow der Royal Asiatic Society. Als "Barde von Bengalen" bezeichnet, war Tagore unter dem Namen sobrique bekannt.
