Seit 2005 ist er Mitglied des Parlaments für Surrey Heath. Er ist Mitglied der Konservativen Partei und war unter den Premierministern David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson und Rishi Sunak in verschiedenen Kabinettspositionen tätig.
