Beschreibung | Carlos Humberto Santana Barragán (spanisch: [.karlos sanˈtana]; geboren am 20. Juli 1947) ist ein US-amerikanischer Gitarrist, der Ende der 1960er und Anfang der 1970er Jahre mit seiner Band Santana berühmt wurde, die eine Fusion aus Rock'n'Roll und lateinamerikanischem Jazz vorantrieb. Sein Sound zeichnete sich durch seine melodischen, auf Blues basierenden Linien aus, die er mit lateinamerikanischen und afrikanischen Rhythmen kombinierte, die auf Perkussionsinstrumenten gespielt wurden, die im Allgemeinen nicht im Rock zu hören sind, wie z. B. Timbales und Congas. In den späten 1990er Jahren erlebte er ein Wiederaufleben seiner Popularität und wurde von der Kritik gelobt. Das Magazin Rolling Stone listete ihn 2015 auf Platz 20 seiner Liste der 100 größten Gitarristen. Er hat 10 Grammy Awards und drei Latin Grammy Awards gewonnen und wurde 1998 zusammen mit seiner gleichnamigen Band in die Rock and Roll Hall of Fame aufgenommen. |
