Beschreibung | Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (russ: Антон Павлович Чехов, IPA: [ɐnˈton ˈpavləvʲɪtɕ ˈtɕexəf]; 29. Januar 1860 - 15. Juli 1904) war ein russischer Dramatiker und Kurzgeschichtenerzähler, der als einer der größten Schriftsteller aller Zeiten gilt. Seine Karriere als Dramatiker brachte vier Klassiker hervor, und seine besten Kurzgeschichten werden von Schriftstellern und Kritikern hoch geschätzt. Zusammen mit Henrik Ibsen und August Strindberg wird Tschechow oft als eine der drei Schlüsselfiguren bei der Entstehung der frühen Moderne im Theater bezeichnet. Tschechow war von Beruf Arzt.
